Care providers and elderly clients alike can get a little stir crazy when having to spend much of their time indoors. Fresh air and a change of scenery would do both parties a world of good, but finding a suitable location to take an elderly client may pose a problem for care providers. Crowds can be stressful for seniors and navigating through them may prove difficult, even under the best of circumstances. Sometimes, it’s best to veer off the beaten path and choose an out-of-the-way venue instead of a more popular one. Here’s a sample itinerary that caregivers in the Berwyn, PA area may consider when planning a field trip for their senior clients.

The Berwyn Veterans Memorial
42 Cassatt Avenue, Berwyn, PA
Phone: 610-889-9966
Fax: 610-889-9969

The Berwyn Veterans Memorial is dedicated to honoring the men and women of the military who gave their lives during the course of service. The memorial was formally dedicated to the city on September 10, 2005 and is the largest of its kind in all of Chester County. The memorial is made of stainless steel and features a large American flag in the center of its design. It rises twenty eight feet above the pedestrian bridge that spans the railroad tracks at the Berwyn Station on Lancaster Avenue. There are three large granite stones that each hold a plaque dedicated to various military conflicts. There is one plaque for World War I commemoration, one plaque for the commemoration of local veterans, as well as a blank plaque that will be dedicated some time in the future.

Minella’s Main Line Diner
320 Lancaster Ave.
Wayne, PA
Phone: 610-687-1575

After visiting the Berwyn Veterans Memorial, the care provider and client may want to head three miles up the road to Minella’s Main Line Diner located in Wayne, PA. Minella’s has a long history in the area, dating back to the late 1960s. Minella’s has an old fashioned walk up counter as well as booth seating to accommodate parties of two, four, and six. The diner is a twenty four hour, full service diner complete with an espresso bar and on-site bakery. The diner offers a full menu all day long – including breakfast around the clock. Minella’s extensive menu includes everything from typical breakfast fare and charcoal burgers to seafood, Italian, and Greek specialties. Minella’s is a good choice for seniors who may have dietary restrictions, due to the wide variety of food items available.
