Escaping the monotony of a day to day schedule is something that everyone must do from time to time to keep a healthy balance in their lives. Care providers are especially vulnerable to falling into a rut by performing the same duties day in and day out. This not only gets boring for the caregiver, but for the clients as well. Elderly people, when able, enjoy a variation in their daily routines every once in a while. They still have interests in things and enjoy the opportunity to partake in those interests as often as they can.
Incorporating day trips into a weekly routine is one way that care providers can keep things fresh for themselves as well as for the seniors in their care. The trips don’t have to be elaborate outings to far away places. A simple trip into town or a movie would suffice. For caregivers and clients located in the Bryn Mawr, PA area, one suggestion for such an outing is the Bryn Mawr Film Institute (BMFI).
The Bryn Mawr Film Institute is a community theater that was founded in 2002 by a group of local citizens with a passion for theatric arts. The location of the BMFI is the historic Seville Theater, which was built in Bryn Mawr in 1926. The Seville Theater was one of six original theaters built along the Main Line District in Philadelphia. Although the others are still in use today, The Seville is the only one that has retained its vintage facade.
Today, The Bryn Mawr Film Institute offers a wide variety of films on their screen. Foreign films with subtitles in English are as common as productions submitted by local film students and enthusiasts. The BMFI also has showing of opera films as well as traditional classics such as GREASE, starring John Travolta. There are many film festivals and holiday events that are hosted at the institute as well, including Open Screen Night, where locals are invited to showcase their work on the big screen.
The earliest of weekday shows begins around 1:30 in the afternoon and subsequent showings continue throughout the evening. The BMFI is located along all the main public transportation routes, but parking at the institute is free. Seniors aged 65 and older receive a discounted admission price. Concessions are sold on site at the institute. For show times and current showings at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute, caregivers can contact the institute directly.
