Caregiving can, at times, be a difficult task. Caregivers are often confined to the four walls of their clients’ homes during their scheduled visits. The same scenery and surroundings can become daunting after a while. Moods and spirits begin to sink. Some caregivers may not have considered planning a field trip with their elderly clients. As long as the client is healthy enough for the trip, there is no reason why care providers and the seniors in their care can’t go out on the town and have some fun once in a while.
For caregivers and their elderly clients in the Merion, PA area, a visit to The Barnes Foundation is a great way to soak up some culture, as well as get reacquainted with nature. The Barnes Foundation is an art gallery located in a twelve acre arboretum. The art gallery is home to one of the world’s largest collections of Impressionist and early Modern paintings. Also on display are some works by famous artists such as Renoir and Picasso.
The arboretum is an oasis filled with a large variety of woody and flowering plants. Many of the species of flora found in the arboretum at The Barnes Foundation are not hardy or native to the area. Some of the plants and tress that call the arboretum home are lilacs, peonies, magnolias, Crab apples, and honeysuckles. Some of the attractions in the arboretum are a pond, the woodlands, a rose and perennial garden, and open green lawns. The arboretum also serves as a training facility for horticulture programs and has an on-site library, herbarium, and greenhouse.
During the year, The Barnes Foundation hosts a series of lectures on different artists and styles of paintings to familiarize the public with what they’re seeing. Additionally, the arboretum offers horticulture demonstrations as well as plant sales throughout the year. Reservations are suggested when visiting The Barnes Foundation. Admission prices to The Barnes Foundation are $10 per person, with an additional $10 parking fee. Guided tours of the gallery are seasonal, with hours and availability varying greatly. They are generally held three times per day. Guided tours of the arboretum are also seasonal, but are only held one time per day. Hours and days for this tour also vary greatly.
