We all know that everybody needs a little help now and then. This is holds true no matter what a person’s age may be. However, as people begin to age, they may find themselves needing more help, more often. Taking cues from an elderly loved one is the best way of determining when it’s time to step in and either offer or contract in-home care. Here are some instances where an elder could benefit from in home senior care services.
Companionship
If a senior still has the desire to be active in his or her community by attending events and functions, this, by all means, should be encouraged. However, family members may not feel comfortable having their elderly loved one going out alone, even if they are capable of doing so. A care provider companion would be one option to consider. The companion would accompany the senior to their activities, all the while maintaining a watchful eye over their well-being.
Housekeeping and Chores
If an elderly family member is living in squalor, chances are it isn’t by choice. Perhaps they just aren’t able to perform the upkeep required in maintaining a home due to lack of energy, strength, or mobility. Laundry, dishes, and general household cleaning can be daunting tasks for many elderly individuals, especially if allowed to accumulate.
Rehabilitation
When a senior is recovering from a hospital stay due to illness, surgery, or other medical procedure, it’s going to take some time before they are self-sufficient again on any level. In home senior caregivers can provide assistance with personal care, errands, or other household duties in the interim.
Respite Care
In the event that an elderly person’s regular caregiver is unable to perform their normal caregiving duties for the individual due to personal business or other situations that may require their absence, in-home care providers can feel that void on the short-term so that the elder continues to receive the level of services he or she requires. Additionally, respite care services can provide the primary caregiver with a much needed break from their full-time caregiving responsibilities.
Acute medical conditions
If a senior has suffered an adverse reaction to a medication, has an infectious disease, or some other acute, but temporary medical condition, in-home care by a trained medical staff can oversee the client’s progress between doctor visits and scheduled check ups. This level of care is extremely beneficial to the client due to the possibility of complications stemming from the acute illness.
